Morning Colonoscopy

An absolutely clean colon is necessary for a successful examination. Please follow these instructions carefully.

••• No aspirin or aspirin-containing products (i.e.: Motrin, Excedrin, Advil, Ibuprofen and Aleve) for one week prior to the examination. Tylenol (Acetaminophen) is the only acceptable pain reliever.

Day Before Examination

Morning

  1. Mix preparation drink according to instructions and refrigerate.
  2. Have a normal breakfast.

Midday

  1. Have a light lunch around noon time.

No solid food can be eaten after 2:00 PM. After 2:00 PM clear liquids are permitted such as clear broth, apple juice, ginger ale, or non-red colored Jell-O. No dairy products of any kind can be consumed past 2:00 PM.

Evening

  1. Begin drinking the preparation drink at 6:00 PM. Drink a large glass (about 8 oz.) every 15 minutes until the bottle is empty. It is best to drink the whole glass rapidly rather than sipping small amounts continuously.
  2. Feelings of bloating and/or nausea and chilliness are common after the first few glasses of the preparation drink because of the large volume of fluid ingested. This is temporary, however, and will disappear once bowel movements begin.
  3. Bowel movements usually occur within 4 hours after the first glass of the drink. They will continue periodically for approximately two to four hours after you finish drinking the last glass. By this time, the stool liquid should be clear.
  4. You may have clear liquids in the morning, but NOTHING can be taken by mouth three hours prior to the examination.

El Dia Antes De La Examinacion

Por la manana

  1. Mesclar Ia bebida acuerdo a las instruciones y poner el gallon en Ia nevera.
  2. Puede corner un desayuno normal.

Medio dia

  1. Usted puede tener un almuerzo liviano.

Despues de las 2:00 PM no puede comer comidas solidas ni azucar: Liquidos claros son permitidos hasta las 12:00 AM (ejemplo) caldos de polIo ode rez,jelatina (no roja) ningun producto que contenga leche.

Por la tarde

  1. Empieze a tornar Ia formula a las 6:00 PM beba un vaso grande de 8oz cada 1 5 minutos. Es mejor tomarse Ia bebida rapidamente que poco a poco. Continue bebiendo Ia formula hasta que el contenido de Ia botella se termine.
  2. Usted puede que se sienta inflado, nauseas y calorfrio esto sintomas pueden ser normales despues de aberse tornado unos cuantos vasos de Ia formula colyte por Ia gran capacidad de liquidos inheridos esto es temporario y los simtornas desaparaceran una vez las evacuaciones comienzen.
  3. Usara el bano entre 4 horas despues del primer vaso de colyte, y continuaran periodicamente por aproximadamente dos a cuatro horas despues de tomar e ultimo vaso. Para este tiempo sus escreta de yen ser claras.
  4. Si usted tiene una cita por Ia tarde, usted tiene que ayunar por TRES HORAS antes del examen.
